On Droxy, Finland-based artist Edward Trethowan aka Net subjects field recordings, prepared samples and compositions for organ/choir sample libraries to granular sampling, modular synth processing, mono tape looping and spectral signal morphing techniques, often in back-and-forth chains. The refined and reduced layers of textures that result are broadly intended as representations of a yearning for contact with rich, mossy, plant litter-strewn forests and the fauna that inhabit them; Trethowan recorded and arranged much of the album’s material while gazing directly into local woods from a window. Other topics that informed the music in one way or another include intrusive wildlife documentary soundtracks (‘Oyen-jington’), dearly-missed pets (‘Dear Tiger’) and threatened insect species (‘Pollinator’).
